Why Quotes?

In 1990, I entered the architecture program at Virginia Tech and began to be bombarded with fantastic stuff I knew absolutely nothing about. while reading was a part of my upbringing, the words of others began to hold a very special place for me. As the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich said, the head is a fragile vessel, and thanks to the printed word ideas survive, take root in other heads, and may grow to fruition.

That first summer I checked out 25 books and, rather than having bookmarks to hold my place while reading, I began to write quotes on index cards. The ink is fading and the edges are fraying, but the words still inspire and provoke thought - hope you will find something of interest in them as well.
